Disclaimer
This website is provided as a service to facilitate the success of Dr. Short's students in Wildlife Biology and
Advanced Ecology courses at Belleville Township High School East. Students are expected to use the site
appropriately and with integrity. Students should check their course site regularly for updates to the calendar and
assignments.

Others are welcome to browse the site as useful information is available. I ask that you respect proprietary rights

Environmental issues information on this site or external links is provided for awareness, consideration, and venues
for responsible citizen actions. Students are encouraged to carefully consider the scientific evidence,
socio-political-economic factors, and their own values when coming to personal conclusions about the most
appropriate responses to these issues. Under no circumstance will students be coerced to any specific action or
unduly influenced in their conclusions; however, if/when students choose to take responsible actions, I will offer
appropriate opportunities and venues when possible.

Ecology Club excursions to wilderness areas are exciting, educational, and great for personal reflection. Outdoor
activities have inherent risks including, but not limited to, bites, stings, plant irritations, dehydration, hypothermia,
exhaustion, cuts, sprains, burns, falls, and other injuries. When participating in ecology class activities on campus
and/or ecology club activities in natural areas, students must keep safety in mind first, respect the safety and
well-being of others, and behave in a mature manner in potentially dangerous areas. Any injury should be reported
to Dr. Short or other chaperones as soon as possible.

VWP: The Voyageur Wilderness Programme is a not-for-profit organization offering ecological education
wilderness canoe experiences in Canada's Quetico Wilderness Park since the 1960's. Belleville Township High
School District 201 students have been finding benefit from this programme since the 1970's, and we proudly
continue to offer this life-changing opportunity. The annual VWP experience is not a BTHS District 201 school
sponsored trip. Theschool district allows the programme to be organized through teachers in the district, but BTHS
District 201 assumes no liability for this trip to the Canadian wilderness. There has been a perfect safety record at
VWP for over 40 years due to their focus on responsible wilderness travel. VWP carries full insurance for
participants and holds BTHS District 201 and its teachers harmless for any unfortunate injuries or incidents incurred
on the trip. For more information on a VWP experience, please contact Dr. Short.
